Marriages are made on television

Marriages are made on television

Gone are those days when you would ask your neighbor and distant relatives to look for a suitable boy or girl for your daughter rather people coming to your doorsteps .......dying to act as a matchmaker......

Changing lifestyle and the huge migration of people from their native places had made people rely on matrimonial sites, Ads in newspapers and consultant agencies.

But I was really more then shocked to hear literally reality shows based on something as serious marriage will also be broadcast on TV on daily basis; out of curiosity I couldn't help myself from sitting in front of the idiot box...

I was really amazed by the way my family (including my mom, Dad and sister) were glued to the TV sets for an hour or so....

The whole concept of these programs are based on the age old Indian custom "SWAYAMVAR"

Where a girl selects a husband for herself....

One of such programs broadcast on one of the very popular regional channel really had really taken me by surprise by the way they have put on the thing.

The funniest part are the dances the songs the backdrop...making it more "Filmy"...

The boys the 'groom' is asked to perform tasks which vary from doing social work to stunts. I will not be much surprised if they have a battle ground and the guys are asked to literally win a war to get the maiden's hand.

The popularity of this kind of shows is evident from the frequent coverage the news channels and the way news sites are writing about them.

In this time of economic downturn and people loosing their jobs and in a volatile state of mind people love to escape the reality and seek some minutes of clean entertainment. These programs are really harmless and innovative until they become a planned stage to commercialize human emotions.
